Country Love Songs
Once upon a time, there was a debate between an engaged couple we'll call Nick and Jessica. Jessica used to like country music, but that was a long, long time ago. Occasionally, she still listened to a few songs, but to be honest, she could no longer tell you who was hot in country music. One thing hadn't changed though--country love songs were among some of the most meaningful that she'd ever heard.
Country Love Songs and Wedding Bells
When Nick and Jessica were going to meet with the DJ to plan what music would be played at their wedding reception, the most important thing to her was to pick a meaningful first dance song, so she had a friend of hers make a CD of her favorite ballads. She was surprised at home many of the love songs she had chosen were actually country love songs. Nick had a completely different idea. He wanted to make their first dance song "Bad" by U2. The lyrics of that song were not happy ones, but Nick liked U2 and it was a slow song, so he thought it would be appropriate. (They couldn't dance to "All I Want is You" by U2 because that was the song that his best friend and his wife danced to as their first dance.) "Bad" was out because Jessica didn't like the lyrics. She suggested that Nick come up with some others or listen to the CD with her choices. He agreed to listen to parts of the CD, but he thought that there were a lot of country love songs, and he didn't like country music. He said he didn't like the steel guitars and the twanginess of it. He said those two things can ruin a love song. In a way, Jessica agreed, but there were still several country love songs that said exactly what she wanted. Check out the portions of lyrics in the following country love songs:
It's Your Love - by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill
Better than I was
More than I am
And all of this happened
By takin' your hand
And who I am now
Is who I wanted to be
And now that we're together
I'm stronger than ever
I'm happy and free
Oh, it's a beautiful thing
Don't think I can keep it all in, no
And if you asked me why I changed
All I gotta do is say your sweet name
It's your love
It just does somethin' to me
It sends a shock right through me
I can't get enough
And if you wonder
About the spell I'm under
It's your love
I Love the Way You Love Me - by John Michael Montgomery
I like the feel of your name on my lips
And I like the sound of your sweet gentle kiss
The way that your fingers run through my hair
And how your scent lingers even when your not there
And I like the way your eyes dance when you laugh
And how you enjoy your two hour bath
And how you convinced me to dance in the rain
With everyone watching like we were insane
But I love the way you love me
Strong and wild
Slow and easy
Heart and soul
So completely
I love the way you love me
And I could list a million things
I love to like about you
But they all come down to one reason
I could never live without you
Hopefully you can see why Jessica liked these songs. There were actually a lot more than these two. Nick finally just let Jessica pick, provided it wasn't a twangy country love song. She finally narrowed it down to "From This Moment" by Shania Twain and "Here and Now" by Luther Vandross. But the one they settled on was Shania Twain's "From This Moment." From the moment Jessica heard that song for the first time, she knew it would be the song she and Nick would dance to at their wedding (even though at the time, they had only been dating a couple of months--she knew she was in love.) Sure, Shania Twain is considered a country singer, but she's not twangy, and her music doesn't actually sound like country music. Nick, being a guy, doesn't even remember what song they danced to, but he loves Jessica, and that's all that matters to her.
